Objective
Reduce waiting time for pedestrians on either side of the intersection: from 160 seconds to 90 seconds. Minimise congestion for cars and public transport from either direction.
Solution and results
Smart Crossroads from SpetsDorProekt and Shvabe Moscow was installed as part of a program implemented by Governor Igor Rudenya and the Federal Road Agency.
The system includes 96 inductive loop detectors, intelligent traffic controller «POTOK», CCTV cameras. The average waiting time for green light for pedestrians was reduced by more than 2 times — now the red light for pedestrians is on for no more than 60-90 seconds! Public transport and cars are not affected! They now average 25-30% faster through the intersection. At the same time, traffic has increased and rush hour has decreased.
